All You Need to Know About Transport Permits in Namibia
Transport Permits are legal documents that authorize the transportation of people or goods on public roads. In Namibia, there are three types of transport permits: Domestic Road Transportation Permits, Cross Border Road Transportation Permits, and Abnormal Load Permits.

Domestic Road Transportation Permits
Domestic Road Transportation Permits allow for the transportation of passengers for reward within Namibia. They are provided for under the Road Transportation Act and Regulations of 1977.
Cross Border Road Transportation Permits
Cross Border Road Transportation Permits allow for the transportation of goods or people between Namibia and other countries. Bi-lateral Agreements exist between Namibia/Zambia and Namibia/Zimbabwe, whereas Multi-Lateral Agreements exist between SACU Member Countries being Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, and Swaziland. These agreements are entered into under the Road Traffic and Transport Act, 1999.
Abnormal Load Permits
Abnormal Load Permits are issued for the transportation of abnormal loads on public roads. These permits are issued in accordance with the Road Traffic and Transport Act, 1999.
Issuance of transport Permits
The issuance of transport permits is performed by the Transport Regulation and Competent Authority Sub-division under the Division Transport Information and Regulatory Services of the Roads Authority. All new applications, transfer of permits, application for additional routes, and changes to routes are published in the Government Gazette.
